For Aurora Expeditions this was their first expedition into the Canadian Arctic and the North West Passage. The expedition began in Kangerlussac on Greenland’s west coast and headed north to the Illusiat the birth place of most icebergs found in Davis Strait and Disko Bay. Then across Davis Strait to explore the fjords of Baffin Island and visit the Inuit town of Pond Inlet.

Since 2019, apart from during Covid, Ashley Perrin has been contracted by Aurora Expeditions as Expedition Leader on their new vessel, the Greg Mortimer. In the winter of 2021-22 Ashley made three trips with Aurora to the peninsula, the Antarctic Circle, Falkland Islands and South Georgia. The South Georgia trip was a homecoming for Ashley as she was Boating Officer at King Edward Point in 2010 and 2011 including overwintering with the British Antarctic Survey.

Antarctic Ice Pilot (AIP) are proud, as well as relieved to report the successful completion, without any Covid infection or transmission, of the only expedition permitted and completed by the AAD to visit the Antarctic Peninsula during the southern Summer of 2020-2021. The project assets comprised two megayachts, with accompanying helicopters and submersibles, with a total of eighty-four crew, expedition staff and guests.

Ashley Perrin departed S/Y Qilak today in Tromso, after two-weeks sailing in Norway. Antarctic Ice Pilot provided consultancy services during the design/build of this high latitude explorer yacht,  launched in Holland in 2018. The trip’s goal was to experience first-hand destinations and facilities available in Northern Norway, gateway to Arctic adventure in East Greenland, Svalbard and beyond.

Ashley Perrin of Antarctic Ice Pilot has been contracted as Deputy Expedition Leader and Expedition Leader for three expeditions working for Aurora Expeditions for the maiden season of the Greg Mortimer, a purpose-built high latitude cruise ship. The period of contract is 29th December thru 4th February. The first two expeditions are to the Antarctic Peninsula. The final trip is a 23-day expedition which includes the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falklands.

Qilak, the new Owen Clarke Design high latitude expedition and explorer sailing yacht was launched this month in Holland. Antarctic Ice Pilot provided consultancy services to the owner and designers. Purposeful, 'half yacht and half working boat', with a large tender garage waiting ready for her rigid inflatable tender. Qilak has been aptly described as a Land Rover Defender on the outside and a Range Rover on the inside.

Taking leave of absence for a morning while working as South Georgia guide and expedition staff onboard One Ocean’s Vavilov, Ashley Perrin of Antarctic Ice Pilot and Merfyn Owen were married on 3rd February at Grytviken in the Norwegian Whalers Church. Ashley is a South Georgia expert, having lived there as boating officer at nearby King Edward Point in 2010 and 2011 and before that was the first woman boating officer to work in Antarctica for the British Antarctic Survey in 2009.

Ashley Perrin of Antarctic Ice Pilot will be aboard Ithaka, a Nordhavn 63 as ice pilot and guide on an expedition to South Georgia for the month of March.  Planning, logistics and approval by the South Georgia government for the expedition was completed early in the new year and the vessel is due to leave Port Stanley on the 1st March.

OCD are currently designing a high latitude expedition yacht for an experienced polar navigator in consultation with Antarctic Ice Pilot. The conference includes a technical workshop focusing on cruising in ice strewn waters and high latitude navigation.

Antarctic Ice Pilot participated in a Captain's rendezvous in Patagonia organized by South America Super Yacht Support Services (SASYSS)

Six lucky mega yacht captains and a representative from Rybovich a marina and yard in West Palm Beach Florida were shown the cruising highlights of Chile's Patagonia from Puerto Montt, Chile at 41S to Puerto Williams, Chile at 54S. The whirlwind trip included a stay at Lakutaia Lodge in Puerto Williams where Ashley Perrin of Antarctic Ice Pilot did a presentation on the cruising destinations of Antarctica, Chile, Falklands and South Georgia. This presentation included the logistics and permitting required for these stunning and remote cruising locations.
